"Life Divine: The History of the Parc & Dare Band"
The title of the new book by Rhondda-based authors Avril Evans and Elaine Hawkins which will be launched in June 2006 and is the centrepiece of the Parc & Dare Band Legacy project.
Over one hundred and ten years old, the Parc & Dare Band has a long and illustrious History. From its early beginnings as the Cwmparc Drum & Fife Temperance Band, through the patronage of the Ocean Coal Company and the subsequent rolling stone that became the Parc & Dare Band we know today, the history of Parc & Dare is a thoroughly fascinating account and insight into our musical and social heritage.
The epic story has now finally been captured in print for all to own and absorb. "Life Divine" (named after the landmark early work for brass band by Welsh composer Cyril Jenkins) was compiled by local authors Avril and Elaine following a request from Chairman Malcolm Pickin in early 2001. Four years on and their account is now complete and will be available to the general public in the near future.
Rather than being the culmination of the Legacy project however "Life Divine" has been very much the start with the wealth of material and historical information uncovered by the two authors currently being properly catalogued and placed into archive at the band's rehearsal headquarters, Tabernacle Vestry, Luton Street, Treorchy.
A second archive of music which has been written for or specially commissioned by Parc & Dare is also currently underway, while an exhibition based upon the band's archive material and history along with an accompanying DVD are also currently planned.
Further developments on the Legacy project will be posted on this site as and when they become available.
